GamesDomain has a new article up on EverQuest: Shadows of Luclin. Some spin, a few factoids about SoL, the new playable race, and horseys.
One of the good bits is this quote from Brad McQuaid, regarding how much life EQ still has left in it:
Who knows? (laughs) We strongly believe Everquest is still growing, we’ve got over 410,000 active subscribers right now, so it’s our opinion that Everquest has a very bright future ahead of it, and we plan on supporting it long term. Not only that, but we consider Everquest not just a single game, but a franchise, we’re starting to turn it into a franchise, we’re getting into it for the long haul. It’s too early to announce anything beyond Shadows of Luclin, but we certainly have a lot – we’re thinking about this for the long term.
“Long term” is a relative thing in the computer gaming business. On the other hand, EQ has just recently announced planned localization of game servers in Europe, so they might even be serious. Then again, it’s not October 16th yet, so we’ll see how long the long haul is in a few more weeks.
